At the same time, rainwater that could recharge our groundwater is often lost through urban drainage and runoff. Islamabad is an important example. The capital relies on sources including **Simly Dam, Khanpur Dam and groundwater**, while groundwater depletion and shrinking recharge areas are becoming important challenges.
