Brand new to salmon fishing in the Pacific Northwest? Me, too! Let's break down some of the gear you need to get started: In this first episode of my PNW Salmon Fishing series, I'm exploring the basics of salmon fishing gear in Western Washington—from choosing the right rod and reel to learning essential fishing knots and understanding which lures work for different fishing situations. Whether you're casting from a Puget Sound beach, fishing from a boat, or exploring Washington's rivers, the right setup depends on where you're fishing and how you plan to target salmon. 🎣 In this video, we'll cover: Fishing rods: What to look for when choosing a rod for salmon fishing. Reels & line: Understanding different reels and lines to get started with. Essential knots: The Salmon or Clinch knot and the Double Uni knot. Gear for beginners: How to build a practical setup without buying every piece of tackle in the shop. Read more about this: https://forgeapathmedia.com/blogs/fie... I'm learning to fish the Pacific Northwest one trip at a time, and this series is about understanding the gear, learning the techniques, and figuring out what works along the way. No gatekeeping—just practical research, time on the water, and plenty of lessons learned. Have a salmon fishing gear recommendation for Western Washington? Drop it in the comments! I'd love to hear what works for you and what you'd recommend to someone just getting started. 👍 Like this video if you're learning to fish, subscribe for more Pacific Northwest fishing adventures, and follow along as I work toward becoming a more capable angler.
