How to set up a Wacom tablet for Photoshop, Part 1 — what a pressure-sensitive tablet actually does, why it beats a mouse for retouching, and how to get comfortable using the pen instead of a trackpad.
CHAPTERS
00:00 What a Wacom tablet actually is
00:41 Why pressure sensitivity matters for editing
01:44 Getting used to the pen instead of a mouse
02:26 Installing drivers and opening tablet preferences
03:10 Setting tip feel and turning off double-click distance

07:41 Choosing the right tablet size for you
THE STEPS
1. Install your Wacom drivers and open the tablet's preferences panel.
2. Set your Tip Feel to match how hard you naturally press with the pen.
3. Turn off Double Click Distance — with it on, double-clicking tools in Photoshop lags.
4. Assign your pen's side buttons to shortcuts you use constantly (undo and right-click are a great starting point).
5. Open the Mapping tab and shrink the active tablet area so a small hand movement covers your whole screen.
6. Pick a tablet size based on how much of the surface you actually use — most people use far less than the full pad.
