Tähtitorninmäki (officially Tähtitorninvuori) is a historic hill and park in the Ullanlinna district of Helsinki, next to the South Harbour. The hill rises about 30 meters above sea level and is best known for the Helsinki Observatory, completed in 1834, which stands on its summit. The name means "Observatory Hill" in English. The observatory's towers gave the hill its current name. Today, the observatory functions as a public astronomy center rather than an active research observatory. The area is popular because it offers: Views over Helsinki's South Harbour and waterfront. A historic park with a rich variety of trees and plants. Walking paths, viewpoints, monuments, and access to nearby attractions such as Kaivopuisto and Market Square.
