Australia's 34-Year Cold Case SOLVED - Arrest Shocks Community

On a Friday night in October 1991, a man came home to his house on the outer edge of Melbourne to find it ransacked, the front door open, and his 26-year-old wife beaten to death on the upstairs landing. His 9-month-old son was still in the car in the driveway. Detectives doubted the burglary story almost immediately. A coroner reviewed everything in 1997 and told the family their suspicions amounted to nothing more than impressions, conjecture and speculation. The man they suspected remarried, had grandchildren, and lived 25 kilometres away for the next 34 years. An anonymous tip in 2018, a million-dollar reward, and forensic techniques that didn't exist in 1991 finally put him in handcuffs. He has pleaded not guilty. The trial has not yet been heard.
