Fishing Rod Repair – Replacing Cracked and Peeling Epoxy and Thread Wraps

Fishing rod repair is important when the epoxy around the guides becomes cracked, peeling, cloudy, or starts separating from the thread wraps. In this video, I remove the damaged epoxy and old thread wrap, clean the rod blank carefully, rewrap the guide with fresh thread, and apply a new coat of epoxy. Old epoxy can crack and peel after years of use, sunlight, moisture, or repeated bending of the rod. If the damaged finish is ignored, the thread underneath may loosen and the guide can eventually become unstable. The repair process requires patience. The old epoxy needs to be removed without damaging the rod blank, the new thread wrap must stay tight and even, and the epoxy should be applied smoothly over the wrap.
