Gas at about thirty-one cents, The Sound of Music in the theaters and a record 9.3 million cars sold. In 1965, a single Chevrolet passed a million sales in one year, and Americans lined up for a brand-new Ford called the Mustang.
We count down from number fifteen to number one with the production numbers, engines and stories behind each one: Buick Riviera, Ford Thunderbird, Cadillac de Ville, Rambler Classic, Mercury Comet, Oldsmobile Cutlass, Pontiac GTO, Dodge Dart, Chevrolet Corvair, Plymouth Fury, Volkswagen Beetle, Chevrolet Chevelle, Ford Galaxie 500, Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Impala. The order is our own opinion, not a sales chart. Which one sat in your family's driveway in 1965?
