The new Honda Emergency Key - why has Honda made it impossible to cut this key?

Honda has thrown the independent locksmith a real curveball with their new high security emergency key. Why? They have gotten rid of all the locks in the car except the drivers door. Why would they pick now to completely change the key blank? But here's the real insidious part: If every key needs that ridge cut at the top, WHY NOT MAKE THE BLANK THAT WAY?
