The Uber of the Skies Is Almost Here - JOBY Air Taxi

Is this the future of city transport? We take a close look inside the Joby air taxi—a 100% electric eVTOL aircraft designed to fly passengers over traffic and reach their destination in minutes instead of hours. The Joby aircraft takes off and lands vertically like a helicopter before its six propellers tilt forward, allowing it to fly efficiently on its wing like an aeroplane. Joby has tested the aircraft at speeds of up to 200 mph and plans to offer flights through an app at a price comparable to a premium taxi or Uber Black. We explore the Joby’s Garmin G3000 cockpit, F-35B-inspired unified flight controls, four separate battery packs, multiple layers of motor redundancy, rapid charging system and surprisingly large luggage compartment. We also discover how quickly it can take off, how quiet it is in forward flight and what it will take to become a Joby air taxi pilot.
