象の鼻森林公園展望台とサンルダム 下川町 Zou no Hana Forest Park Observation Deck and Sanru Dam, Shimokawa Town

下川町は、北海道の中部よりやや北側、北見山地と天塩山地に囲まれた名寄盆地に位置し、冬は降雪量が多く、特別豪雪地域に指定されている。年の平均気温は、約5.5℃で年平均真夏日(最高気温30℃以上)が約5日に対し真冬日(最高気温0℃未満)は約86日もある。従ってウインタースポーツ、特にスキージャンプが盛んで、オリンピック選手の葛西紀明、岡部孝信、伊藤 有希は下川町出身である。標高238ｍの丘に建つのは「象の鼻森林公園展望台」。下川町の町並みやスキージャンプ台、しもかわ珊瑠湖を見渡すことができる。しもかわ珊瑠湖は、天塩川水系サンル川に特定多目的ダムとして建設されたサンルダムによって形成された人造湖である。 Shimokawa Town is located slightly north of the center of Hokkaido and has a population of approximately 2,700. Temperatures remain low throughout the year, with an annual average of 5.5°C; while there are only about five days a year when the daily high exceeds 30°C, there are roughly two and a half months when the daily high remains below freezing. Winter sports are popular in the area, and the town has produced Olympic ski jumpers. From the observation deck at the Zounohana Forest Park—situated on a hill 238 meters above sea level—visitors can view the townscape of Shimokawa, the ski jump hill, and Lake Shimokawa-Sanru.
