Epic Vietnam War Reenactment -- Peoria 2018

An American patrol fends off an attack by Viet Cong fighters, but the forest never really seems clear of them. Filmed during the annual WW2 Comes Alive reenactment in Peoria, IL. I'm happy to publish my first Vietnam era video as I seek out histories I haven't filmed yet. I wish I could've had more footage of the Viet Cong, but I only ever have one shot at this and they were awful hard to find (not far from the truth, so I've heard). Though this was primarily a WW2 event, a handful of other units took the opportunity to display wars like the First Indochina War, the Second Indochina War (aka the Vietnam War), and the Soviet-Afghan War. Vietnam reenacting is still embryonic and very small compared to WW2 and Civil War reenacting, but I suspect it will climb as more reenactors get interested and see the value of portraying the combatants (of both sides) of this conflict. Of all our wars, Vietnam has arguably left the most lasting impression on the American psyche, and perhaps revisiting it will help us grapple the lessons to be had.
