King Charles, Sir Keir Starmer & Andy Burnham travel to Buckingham Palace for the transfer of power

King Charles, Sir Keir Starmer and Andy Burnham all made their way to Buckingham Palace on Monday 20th July for the transfer of power between Keir Starmer and Andy Burnham following Starmer's resignation in June. King Charles arrived in London by royal helicopter from the Sandringham Estate and then travelled by motorcade from Kensington Palace. Shortly after, Sir Keir Starmer left Downing Street for the final time and travelled to Buckingham Palace to meet The King for an audience, during which he formally resigned as Prime Minister. About an hour later, Andy Burnham made his way to Buckingham Palace after Starmer's formal resignation and was appointed as Prime Minister by King Charles before makiing his way to Downing Street for the first time, where he made a speech to the nation. King Charles, Sir Keir Starmer and Andy Burnham's motorcades were all escorted by the Metropolitan Police Special Escort Group to and from Buckingham Palace during the transfer of power.
