Pacific Northwest approach to modernism. Set among the trees of Portland, Oregon, the residence is defined by warm cedar ceilings, exposed structural beams, natural stone and expansive walls of glass that draw the surrounding landscape into the home.
At the heart of the residence, a monumental stone fireplace anchors the living spaces, while large openings dissolve the boundary between inside and out. Throughout the home, natural materials and carefully framed views create an architecture that feels deeply connected to its setting.
Thoughtfully renovated for contemporary living, the residence retains the warmth and character of Storrs’ original 1962 design. Outside, heritage apple trees from the property's former orchard remain among a landscape designed for gathering, culminating in a covered outdoor pavilion surrounded by the greenery of the Pacific Northwest.
More than sixty years after it was built, the home remains an enduring expression of Northwest modernism and John Storrs’ belief in architecture shaped by place.
