A beautiful moment from John McLaughlin’s solo portion of the Guitar Trio concert at Budapest Sportcsarnok on October 11, 1996, also featuring Paco de Lucía and Al Di Meola. What strikes me here is the concentration, the clarity, and the authority of his acoustic playing. There is so much energy in it, but also shape, touch, and control. Even on a single guitar, he creates a tremendous sense of momentum and tension. For anyone interested in articulation, time, attack, and the expressive possibilities of acoustic guitar, there is a great deal to hear in this performance. Want online lessons?
