What does times really mean? It's Logic's first day as the penguin keeper, and twelve hungry penguins want breakfast. There are four rocks, with three penguins on each… so how many fish? Isla says seven. Seven fish land, and five penguins go hungry! So Logic gives out the fish in groups: three for this rock, three for that one. Four groups of three makes twelve. Then, at Penguin Beach, his parade needs four rows of three, and the penguins are standing the wrong way round… or are they? The big idea: times means equal groups. Four times three is four groups of three. You need how many groups, and how many in each, not every single one. And turn it round, three times four is the same as four times three!
