Driving the Legendary Chishui River Valley - China's Epic Red Cliffs and Baijiu Heartland | 4K HDR

On this trip, we drive along the Chishui River Valley Scenic Road in Guizhou, China. Starting from downtown Renhuai, home to China's most famous baijiu-producing region, we follow Zhongmao Avenue southwest toward Maotai Town. This route serves as the main gateway into the heart of China's baijiu country. We then join National Highway G212 and continue along the winding Chishui River to Erlang Ferry in Erlang Town near the Guizhou–Sichuan border. This journey passes through the core of China's sauce-aroma baijiu region. The approximately 40-kilometer U-shaped river valley between Maotai Town and Erlang Ferry is often known as the "Golden Valley of Chinese Baijiu," home to some of the country's most celebrated distilleries. One of the most spectacular natural features of the Chishui River Valley is the Chishui Danxia landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Formed roughly 70 million years ago and shaped by millions of years of uplift and river erosion, this remarkable terrain is known for its towering red cliffs, deep valleys, and dramatic waterfalls. Driving along G212, you'll encounter massive red sandstone walls rising high above the river. Some cliffs extend for hundreds of meters, creating a landscape that feels both rugged and awe-inspiring. Below, the Chishui River winds through the valley, its waters often taking on a reddish-yellow hue, especially during the rainy season. In some sections, the valley reaches depths of around 300 meters, with mountains standing on both sides and creating a remarkably calm and sheltered environment. This unique setting gives the region a quiet, almost mysterious atmosphere. This is one of China's classic road trips, combining spectacular scenery, rich history, and a deep connection to the country's baijiu culture. Following the Chishui River along the Guizhou–Sichuan border, the route links two of China's most famous sauce-aroma baijiu regions, Maotai and Langjiu.
