Lucerne Festival, 2011
Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9, his final and unfinished work, is often described as his “swan song.” Dedicated to “dear God,” the symphony stands as a deeply personal farewell, which Bruckner himself called his “farewell to life.” Written in his last years, it reflects a profoundly felt confession of faith, combining moments of solemn grandeur with passages of quiet vulnerability.
