A song about the Irish Goddess, The Morrigan, based on her myths.
The Phantom Queen
(Verse 1)
Goddess of fate, of battle, and of war,
Deciding who'll die in battles loud roar.
The Crone washes bloody clothes at the ford,
Of the warriors who'll die by spear and sword.
(Verse 2)
As a crow, The Morrigan takes to the sky,
Watching the hosts as they clash and die.
She drives her chosen to a bloodthirsty heat,
Her shrieks make her enemies flee in retreat.
(Chorus)
Mistress of shadows, Phantom Queen of disguise,
Watches the battles through dark fateful eyes,
She tests the heroes with trickery and pain,
Destroys the others for her own bloody gain.
(Verse 3)
Goddess of soil and the crops of the land,
Cattle that roam are kept safe by her hand.
The power of kings, the right to the throne,
These things are granted by The Morrigan alone.
(Verse 4)
The goddess watches the threads of fate,
Feels no pity for the small or the great.
Her prophecies whisper of shadows and gloom,
Leads warriors and kings to a dark, cold tomb.
(Chorus)
Mistress of shadows, Phantom Queen of disguise,
Watching the battles through dark fateful eyes,
She tests the heroes with trickery and pain,
Destroys the others for her own bloody gain.
(Verse 5)
She meets Cú Chulainn, standing tall and bold,
Her hair like fire, she's a sight to behold.
In a chariot of war with a spear so grey,
Red cloak flapping as she blocks his way.
(Verse 6)
She hunts down the hero with tooth and with claw,
Shifting her shape, attacking with tusk and with paw.
When Cú Chulainn dies, bound to a pillar of stone,
The crow lands on his corpse; his spirit has flown.
(Final Chorus)
The Morrigan walks among Ireland's burial mounds,
Where the clash of battle no longer resounds,
Of long ago battles and once proud kings,
The ancient goddess's voice still sings.
