Someone Burned the Duke’s Stable - They Missed What Was Sewn Inside the Saddle

Everyone at Alderwick believed the duke would never walk again. His horse knew otherwise—and Nora Mercer was the only person who could hear him. Hired to train a supposedly dangerous black stallion, Nora arrives at the estate with a secret she has guarded since childhood: horses can speak inside her mind. But Rook’s first revelation has little to do with bridles or saddles. The injured Duke of Alderwick is practicing his steps before sunrise, hiding his recovery from the very people who claim to care for him. When Nora discovers Julian struggling alone beneath the moonlight, their guarded encounters become an unlikely alliance. By day, she works in the stables. By night, she helps him reclaim each painful step. Meanwhile, Rook remembers details no human witness can offer: a rope across a rain-soaked road, unfamiliar men, and the unmistakable scent of lemon soap. As suspicion falls closer to home, a stable fire and something hidden inside an old saddle draw Nora and Julian into a conspiracy that reaches beyond his accident. With danger gathering around them, trusting each other may be their greatest risk—and their best chance of uncovering the truth. Step into a historical romance filled with family betrayal, hidden evidence, quiet courage, and a fiercely loyal horse with very little respect for a duke’s dignity. At its heart is a slow-burning love built through difficult mornings, honest conversations, and the strength to accept a helping hand. 💬 Who would you trust first: the polished gentleman or the horse who remembers everything?
