University of Leeds at COP29: Meet the delegation

In November all eyes will turn to Baku, Azerbaijan, hosts of COP29. The annual United Nations climate negotiations will see people from across the world gather to discuss and demand action on climate change. Hundreds presidents and prime ministers will be joined by thousands of delegates to agree a pathway for reaching the targets set out in the Paris Agreement of 2015. Among those delegates will be several researchers and students from the University of Leeds. As an official observer of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the University of Leeds is sending a delegation to attend COP29. Members of the delegation will be involved in hosting and speaking at events as well as conducting research. They will also contribute to the accountability of the process and use the opportunity to meet with a wide range key stakeholders. This webinar offered an opportunity to meet members of the University of Leeds COP29 delegation. As an introduction, we offered an overview of COP29 and outline its importance: both scientific and political. Several members of the delegation then share details of their planned activities and hopes for the negotiations. Finally, they answer questions posed by attendees.
