Desert Center, California, 1993, rare footage

Located at the junction of Interstate 10 and State Route 177, Desert Center Center is a small town in Riverside County, California founded as a vehicle service center by Stephen A. Ragsdale in 1921. The cafe closed in 2012 and is unfortunately vandalized today, like other buildings there. In the video you see a caboose of the Kaiser Steel Company which operated nearby the Eagle Mountain Mine from the 1930s until 1981. Further, a circle of palm trees, planted by "Desert Steves´s" son Stanley in the beginning of the 1990s are in the picture. I came across the place on my roadtrip on my way from nearby Joshua Tree National Park (a National Monument then) heading east on I-10 , April 12, 1993. Copyright by myself.
