Irish Tune from County Derry is the traditional Irish melody most of us know as Danny Boy. The tune was first published in 1855. The familiar Danny Boy lyrics were added many years later, in 1913. Over time, this beautiful melody has come to represent many kinds of love: love between parent and child, love of home and homeland, and the love that endures even when someone dear to us is far away. Percy Grainger loved the tune and created several settings of it. His concert band arrangement surrounds that simple melody with rich colors and harmonies, building to a wonderfully moving conclusion. You may know it as Danny Boy; Grainger called it Irish Tune from County Derry, a timeless expression of love for people and place. Irish Tune from County Derry was recorded live at the "All You Need Is Love" concert at Carlsbad Community Church in Carlsbad, CA on August 15, 2026.
