This is Hula Hālau o Manaʻolana o Kohala with Kumu Hula Hope Manaʻolana Keawe. In Hawaiian culture, a hālau hula is a school or gathering place for learning and perpetuating the art of hula, a traditional dance form deeply rooted in Hawaiian history, spirituality, and storytelling. It's more than just a dance; it's a living expression of Hawaiian culture, serving as a way to honor deities, share history, pass on stories, and explain natural phenomena.
I did not catch the name of the Halau; hopefully it is mentioned somewhere in the video. But what an honor to be able to attend and record. I'm touched.
