Movement 1
In the beginning, before light had a name,
Logos—the Word.
He was with God, and the Word was God Himself,
face to face with the Father before time began.
John 1:1
Through Him every created thing came to be—
apart from Him not one thing was made.
In Him was life, and that life was the light of men,
that darkness has never put out.
John 1:3–5
Movement 2
A man was sent from God; his name was John.
He came to testify, to bear witness to the light,
so that through him all might believe.
He himself was not the light—
he came only to testify about the light.
John 1:6–8
The true Phōs—light—was coming into the world,
dawning on every soul that ever drew breath.
John 1:9
He was in the world,
and it was made through Him,
yet it did not know Him.
He came to His own,
and His own did not receive Him.
John 1:10–11
Yet everyone who opened the door to Him,
who staked their trust on His very name—
them He remade as children of God:
born not of blood,
nor the will of the flesh,
nor the will of man,
but of God.
John 1:12–13
Movement 3
The Word was made flesh,
and He Skēnoō'd—pitched His tent—among us,
the way the fire once pitched itself
over Israel's camp in the wilderness sand.
John 1:14a; cf. Exodus 40:34–38
We saw it. We saw it with our own eyes—
the glory of the only begotten Son,
straight from the Father's face to ours.
John 1:14b
Movement 4
John crying out:
“This is the One I meant when I said,
though He comes after me, He is greater—
for He was before me.”
John 1:15
From His fullness we have all received:
Charis—grace—
that keeps arriving, wave after wave.
John 1:16
The law came by Moses;
grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
John 1:17
