It is also known as the Temple of the Thousand Pillars and Dakshina-Then Kailasam (Southern / Ancient Kailash). The most revered of Sri Lanka's Pancha Ishwarams, Konesar Malai was constructed extensively in antiquity atop a peninsula with views of the Indian Ocean, Gokarna Bay, and Trincomalee District. The primary Shiva shrine on the monument is called Kona-Ishvara, or Konesar.
