Once Denmark’s largest psychiatric hospital (opened in 1858 and designed by architect Gottlieb Bindesbøll), Oringe was built in a serene, isolated setting surrounded by parkland and water. At its peak it housed nearly 900 patients, and the large green park was deliberately created so patients could enjoy fresh air and calming walks in nature. Today the area is open to the public. You’ll see the impressive yellow-brick buildings, old trees, quiet paths, and beautiful views across the water toward Vordingborg harbor and the Farø bridges.
