Why Can't I Forgive Myself?

Why is it sometimes easier to believe in God's grace for everyone else than it is to accept that same grace for ourselves? When God shows us something in our lives that needs to change, we can quickly move from conviction into shame. We tell ourselves we should've known better, should've changed sooner, or should be further along by now. But conviction and condemnation aren't the same thing. Romans 8:1 reminds us that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Grace doesn't mean ignoring what we've done or refusing to change. It means we can take responsibility, make things right where we can, and keep moving forward without believing our mistakes define who we are. We're still learning.
