How to create a cinemagraph in Photoshop — a still photo with one small area of looping motion, exported as a seamless GIF. This covers both halves of the process: what to shoot in camera (tripod, shutter speed) and everything you need to do in Photoshop to import, loop, mask, and export the footage.

THE STEPS
1. Shoot on a tripod with a fast enough shutter speed to keep the scene sharp and steady.
2. Import the video into Photoshop's timeline so you can scrub and trim it like footage in an editor.
3. Find a loop point where the beginning and end frames match closely, so the motion repeats seamlessly.
4. Duplicate a still frame above the video layer, then paint a layer mask to reveal only the area that should keep moving.
5. Trim the timeline to your loop point and preview by hitting play.
6. Go to File, then Save for Web, and export as a GIF — adjusting settings there to manage file size.
