Lebedev had held WBA cruiserweight championship status since first capturing the interim belt in 2011 and came into Moscow as the division’s established WBA champion. 🥊 Youri Kayembre Kalenga (France) – 27-year-old Congolese-born, France-based cruiserweight known as “El Toro.” He entered at 21-1 with 14 KOs and a reputation for physical strength, aggression, durability and dangerous power. Kalenga had captured the WBA interim title against Mateusz Masternak in 2014 and successfully defended it against Denton Daley, arriving in Moscow as the mandatory challenger for the full championship. 🔥 The fight produced two huge momentum swings across a punishing 12 rounds. After a strong opening stretch, Lebedev was sent to the canvas at 2:59 of the fourth round, allowing Kalenga to seize momentum through the middle stages. Then, at 1:48 of round seven, Kalenga was knocked down in return, dramatically changing the rhythm once again. The later rounds remained intense as Kalenga began to tire while the pace and pressure shifted, but both men reached the final bell. The bout went the full scheduled 12 rounds and was settled by unanimous decision after each fighter had scored one official knockdown.
