Because I Am His

On this special Sunday we received a visit from our District Superintendent, Dr. Chris Williams, and also answered the question: What does it really mean to be a child of God? In this one-off message, Because I Am His, we look at the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-24 (NIV) and discover what it means to know that we belong to God...not because of what we've done, but because of who He is and what He has done for us! Throughout the message, we explore what Scripture says about being God's children through passages including: John 1:12-13 • We become children of God through faith in Christ. Romans 9:8 • Being God's children is about His promise, not simply our natural identity. 1 John 3:1 • God has given us His love and calls us His children. Romans 8:15 • We have received the Spirit of adoption and can call God our Father. Romans 5:8 • God demonstrated His love for us while we were still sinners. Like the father in Luke 15, God welcomes us home with grace, love, and open arms. Our identity isn't found in our mistakes, our accomplishments, or our circumstances. We are His. And because we are His, we can live differently!
