Your breakfast may look healthy, but some everyday food choices could be affecting your LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and overall heart health. Excess butter, ghee, refined carbohydrates, sugary biscuits and packaged breakfast foods can contribute to an unhealthy eating pattern. Even natural sweeteners such as jaggery and honey are added sugars and should be consumed in moderation. In this video, Hansaji explains five common breakfast mistakes that may affect cholesterol levels and how to avoid them. She highlights the importance of soluble fibre from oats, barley, nuts and seeds, protein-rich breakfast options such as moong chilla and tofu bhurji, and why food labels such as "multigrain" or "zero cholesterol" can sometimes be misleading. Discover how simple changes to your breakfast, along with balanced nutrition, regular walking and yoga, can support healthier cholesterol levels and overall heart health. Heart-Friendly Breakfast Recipes Mentioned in the Video 1. Barley-Moong Vegetable Breakfast (2 servings) Soak ½ cup barley and ½ cup moong. Cook with 1½–2 cups mixed vegetables, cumin, ginger, turmeric, coriander and a little salt until soft. Finish with a light cumin tempering using 1 teaspoon oil and add lemon juice. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon freshly ground flaxseed after cooking for extra fibre and healthy fats. 2. Vegetable Moong Chilla Soak ½ cup moong and grind into a smooth batter. Add ½ cup finely chopped vegetables, coriander, ginger, turmeric, black pepper, cumin and salt. Prepare two small chillas using minimal oil. Serve with plain curd or fresh coriander chutney. 3. Chia-Lemon Drink Soak 1 teaspoon chia seeds in water for 15–20 minutes. Add fresh lemon juice without sugar for a refreshing, fibre-containing alternative to sugary morning drinks. Managing cholesterol is not about avoiding a single food or relying on a special breakfast recipe. It is about making balanced food choices, staying physically active and maintaining healthy habits consistently. If you have high cholesterol or are taking prescribed medication, remember that dietary and lifestyle changes should complement your medical care, not replace it. 00:00 – Introduction- 5 Breakfast Mistakes Affecting Your Cholesterol 01:12 – Mistake 1 02:11 – Mistake 2 03:31 – Mistake 3 04:29 – Mistake 4 05:23 – Mistake 5 06:21 – Barley-Moong Vegetable Breakfast Recipe 07:15 – Vegetable Moong Chilla Recipe 07:57 – Chia Seed and Lemon Drink 08:14 – Walking and Yoga for Heart Health 08:39 – Final Thoughts and conclusion Watch & Subscribe to our NEW TYI Shorts Channel!
