Homily for the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time

God invites everyone, but He also asks us to be ready. This Sunday is all about God's invitation. God is the King who has prepared a lavish wedding banquet for us - not because we earned it, but because He loves us. Isaiah says He will remove tears, wipe away disgrace, and destroy death itself at His table. Many of us are too busy - farm, business, phone, worries - to say yes. God then opens the doors to everyone, good and bad alike. His mercy is that wide. But entering is not enough; we must be clothed properly. The wedding garment is a changed heart - faith, love, repentance, charity. We cannot come to God's feast in the old clothes of pride and indifference.
