Something strange was found around a tiny object beyond Neptune… 🌌 Scientists detected evidence of a thin atmosphere around 2002 XV93, a small icy world in the outer Solar System. And this is where the mystery begins… For a long time, Pluto was the only trans-Neptunian object known to have a detected atmosphere. But 2002 XV93 is only about 500 km wide — far too small, according to traditional expectations, to easily hold onto an atmosphere for long. Scientists detected the atmosphere through a stellar occultation — when the object passed in front of a distant star and caused the star's light to fade in a very specific way. The estimated surface pressure is only around 100–200 nanobars, making it millions of times thinner than Earth's atmosphere. But scientists still don't know exactly where this atmosphere came from. One possibility is activity inside the icy world. Another is that a recent impact released trapped material and temporarily created the atmosphere. So the real question isn't just… How did scientists find an atmosphere there? It's… How is such a tiny, distant world holding onto an atmosphere at all? 🌌 This discovery could change what we understand about the strange worlds hiding at the edge of our Solar System. #Space #Astronomy #SolarSystem #Science #Pluto #Neptune #KuiperBelt #SpaceMystery #ScienceFacts #AstronomyFacts
