In this video, I’m travelling through Bihar and taking you across the iconic Mahatma Gandhi Setu, one of the most important bridges connecting Patna and Hajipur across the Ganga River. Mahatma Gandhi Setu is approximately 5.575 km long and is located on NH-19, connecting South Bihar with North Bihar. The bridge has undergone a major engineering transformation, with its old concrete superstructure being replaced with a modern steel-truss superstructure. This massive project has made the bridge an important example of large-scale bridge rehabilitation and modern engineering in India. In this video, we’ll also look at the bridge from a traveller’s perspective — how long does it actually take to cross such a huge river bridge? The crossing time can be calculated by noting the exact moment when the vehicle or train enters the bridge and the moment when it completely leaves the bridge. The actual time can vary depending on the mode of transport, speed, traffic, railway operations and other conditions. We’ll also talk about another remarkable bridge in India — the Bhupen Hazarika Setu, also known as the Dhola–Sadiya Bridge, located in Assam. At 9.15 km, it is officially described by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways as India’s longest bridge. It crosses the Lohit River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra, and connects Dhola and Sadiya in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The bridge was dedicated to the nation in May 2017 and has greatly improved connectivity in the region.
