Since I Lost You — 2026 Redux Since I Lost You — 2026 Redux began with a song from another time. The original “Since I Lost You” came from the early Blue Angel Records catalogue, produced and published by my father, Wesley Daugherty, and originally recorded as a simple, old-school bluegrass demo by my sister, Patricia Daugherty Mundt. Decades later, I returned to that song not because I wanted to replace what he created, but because I wanted to discover what its heart might sound like today. This contemporary adaptation expands upon the emotional foundation of the original—the confusion, loneliness, memory, and heartbreak that remain after someone you loved has chosen another path. The language has changed. The musical landscape has changed. But the central question remains painfully familiar: What do you do with all the love that remains after the person you gave it to is gone? In this version, memories live in ordinary things: an empty chair, a cup placed out for someone who is no longer there, a familiar name heard unexpectedly, a road that somehow leads back to the same person. Time moves forward, but grief and love do not always follow the same clock. There is another story underneath this song, however. This recording is also my tribute to the man who first gave me the original song—and who gave me something far more important throughout my childhood: his time. When I was young, my dad would take me fishing on Kentucky’s Green River. At the time, I wasn’t always particularly excited about going fishing. Looking back now, I understand something I couldn’t fully appreciate then. It was never really about the fish. Those trips created a place where a father could sit beside his son and listen. With the river moving around us and fishing poles in our hands, he gave me room to talk about whatever was happening in my world. What seemed ordinary then became extraordinary with time. That realization has become part of how I understand legacy. Sometimes the greatest gifts our parents leave us are not objects or possessions. They are afternoons we didn’t realize were important, conversations we didn’t know we would remember, songs recorded decades ago, and moments whose meaning only becomes clear after enough years have passed. Since I Lost You — 2026 Redux is therefore both a song about romantic loss and a continuation of something my father began many years ago. The original song remains his foundation. This version is my conversation with it. And somewhere between the original Blue Angel recording and this contemporary adaptation is a father who believed in his passion to produce and publish music, a family that preserved it, and a son who finally understands just how valuable the time his father gave him really was. Some songs never really leave us. They simply wait until we are old enough to understand what they were trying to say.
