Why did God allow the serpent to enter Eden if He already knew what would happen? If God is all-knowing and all-powerful, why did He permit temptation to appear in the very garden He created as paradise?
Genesis does not give us a simple explanation. Instead, it presents something more profound: God had already spoken, humanity had already received His command, and then another voice appeared to challenge that word.
Before the serpent entered the story, Eden was a place of abundance, relationship, freedom, and one clear boundary. The serpent did not enter a world where humanity lacked God’s guidance. It entered a world where God’s Word had already been given.
In this episode of Bible Chapters, we examine Genesis 2–3 and explore what the biblical narrative actually reveals about the serpent, temptation, human choice, divine knowledge, obedience, and the mystery of evil.
If God knew the Fall would happen, why did He allow it?
Was the serpent’s presence part of God’s purpose, or does Genesis leave the question intentionally unresolved?
This difficult Bible question may lead us to reconsider not only the serpent but what Genesis is really saying about God’s Word, human freedom, trust, and the beginning of rebellion.
