At 32, I applied for my first passport in Zhejiang, China. The visit took 44 minutes, including waiting, and the application fee was ¥120 (about $18). Afterward, I got my car washed for ¥30 (about $4.50), had hot pot, and ended the evening watching people dance in the town square. I don’t have a trip planned yet, but I’m glad I’ve taken this step.
