Redflags CEO and Co-founder Tim Ward appeared on Neuco’s Cybersecurity Matters podcast to reflect on the career that took him from computer science and corporate IT into cyber security leadership.
Speaking with hosts Callum Davis and Daisy Steel, Tim looks back at the lessons, managers and moments that shaped his approach, while exploring how cyber security as a profession has changed since his early days as an up-and-comer. Drawing on almost three decades across software, corporate IT, cyber security consulting and start-up leadership, he considers the growing importance of behavioural science, human risk and timely, contextual nudges.
The conversation moves through the realities of building a values-led team, hiring for curiosity, deciding which expertise belongs in-house and measuring whether an intervention has genuinely changed behaviour. Tim also considers why familiar awareness activity can struggle to influence decisions under pressure, how phishing simulations should be judged against real outcomes, and where behavioural analytics can reveal patterns that conventional completion metrics miss.
There’s also a clear-eyed discussion of AI, data sharing, deepfakes, prompt injection and the controls that can help people respond with healthy scepticism. For cyber security leaders, founders and anyone entering the industry, this episode offers a practical route from awareness activity to measurable human risk management.
