I Hiked Y Garn After Dark – Winter Hike in Snowdonia

Solo winter hike up Y Garn (Glyderau) from Ogwen Valley via Llyn Idwal in Eryri National Park. Normally on this channel, it's Emilia and me hiking together, but this time I'm heading up alone — a winter evening ascent after sunset with fog, wind, and patches of snow. This route starts at Ogwen car park, crosses Afon Idwal, follows the north shore of Llyn Idwal, and then climbs steeply toward the summit of Y Garn. 📍 Route details Distance: 6.6 km Elevation gain: 660 m Time: 3.5–4 hours Route type: Out & back AllTrails link: https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail... The climb gets steep quickly after Llyn Idwal, and higher up, the weather turned harsher — strong wind, fog, and icy patches near the summit. I didn’t film the summit because the wind was too strong and I needed to keep moving to stay warm — a good reminder that winter hiking is more about safety than summit photos. This was another step in my Nuttalls challenge, slowly working through the mountains of England and Wales over 2000 ft.
