There are now 250+ hydrangeas growing throughout Blank Slate Gardens — and many of them are reaching an incredible peak of summer bloom. But then the rain came. In this week’s garden tour, I’m taking you through the garden to see how these enormous hydrangeas handled a heavy summer downpour, which varieties held up, which ones struggled, and what the garden looks like after the rain. With 20+ hydrangea varieties growing across the property, there is a lot to see — from massive panicles and mature shrubs to beds that are beginning to take on the scale I originally imagined when this garden was just a blank slate. 🌸 In this video: • A tour of 250+ hydrangeas throughout the garden • The effect of heavy rain on mature hydrangeas • Huge blooming Limelight and Vanilla Strawberry hydrangeas • Pinky Winky vs. Pinky Winky Prime, which is better? • Other hydrangea varieties reaching peak summer bloom • Hardy hibiscus and other summer flowers • A look at how the garden continues to develop and mature • What’s working — and what I’m learning along the way One of the things I love most about this garden is that it is still a work in progress. Every season reveals something new, and with hundreds of hydrangeas planted across the property, there is always another bed, another variety, or another experiment to follow. If you enjoy hydrangea gardening, large-scale garden tours, growing hydrangeas, landscape design, perennial gardens, and watching a garden develop from a blank slate, I hope you'll come along for the journey.
