I am very happy to share with you all the first video of this custom foodwaste collection truck on route! Universal’s 348 is likely one of the most customized, boujee, and neatest automated trucks you will ever see. Sitting atop an Izusu chassis, this mini Bridgeport Ranger was solely bought by UWS to collect foodwaste within the city of Malibu as part of a pilot program a little while back. But if you only look at photos of this vehicle, you will miss out on some seriously cool features... For one, notice how the tank on top of the body is not for any Natural Gas or fuel, but for a soap and water solution! UWS modified this truck to automatically clean out foodwaste containers after the contents have emptied into the hopper, as you can see with the hydraulic operated spigot that swings into place to wash out the cans! The driver controls how long the nozzle sprays the solution into the cans before lowering them down and swinging the nozzle back into its original position before dumping the next can. The driver can either use that or manually clean out the cans by using a manual spray wand attached next to the arm. But considering how much of the contents were bagged, I didn’t really see much reason to be cleaning out the containers. This Bridgeport is also a water tight body, as you expect would be needed considering the amount of food juice and cleaning solution is sloshing around inside the body. It is truly beyond me why and how UWS spent so much time and effort modifying this truck with the amount of hydraulics and electrical wires and everything, but it sure was a treat to watch in person. Oh and I should also mention how I ran into it... though I have only ever seen it drive down the Highway to go dump around 7 am on weekdays, I ran into it by complete surprise in the middle of Malibu around 11 am on a Saturday... so yeah. Please enjoy this extremely unique truck, thank you to the very friendly driver, and I look forward to hearing what you guys think in the comments!
