Route X80 is a Ensignbus route which runs hourly between Bluewater Bus Station in Kent and Lakeside Bus Station in Essex. Bus X80 is the only regular public bus route that uses the Dartford Crossing to travel across the River Thames between Essex and Kent.
In 2004, Ensignbus began operating bus route X80 as rail replacement service in Kent for South Eastern Trains while the Higham and Strood tunnels were closed. Route X80 proved successful and was kept going after the rail contract finished, although being cut back to run between Lakeside and Bluewater only.

Bluewater Shopping Centre in Greenhithe, Kent, is built inside the former Stone Castle Quarry, a 240-acre chalk pit that operated from the early 19th century until the 1980s for cement production by Blue Circle Industries. Chalk was excavated and used heavily to supply materials for London and local cement.
