I want to address the elephant in the room regarding the budget, editing, script choices, and the performances. This film was never meant to be professional or a feature length narrative. It’s a demo / draft of what I actually would like to write and create. When you are making a film with no to little money you are constantly thinking about resources you don't have. My original script required over 10+ actors, period accurate sets and places, location permits, and a small production crew to execute this story properly. When you don't have those resources, you have to adapt and be creative. When people look at cult tragedies through a modern lens, we expect constant dread and terror. But that is not how cults operate, and it’s also not how children experience them in the beginning. The inclusion of the royalty free footage was a narrative placeholder for when Jim Jones and his family moved to Brazil for a few years. Without the funds to fly a cast to South America, I had to go around it. Much of the script had to be rewritten during post production and editing process. I am not a good editor, but that doesn’t mean I will hire someone that isn’t a good one either. Working on no budget films means working with limited rehearsal time and actors who want to act for free, a lot of actors don’t want to do something for free. I felt that the acting was natural and not over the top like modern Hollywood films today. Everyone involved gave their time and heart to get this story off the ground.This is step one.
