Thaanenai Munpadaithaan - தானெனை முன்படைத்தான் | Thevaram Vol II

When Sundarar reached the final stage of his earthly journey at Thiruvanjaikalam, a divine white elephant was sent to take him to Mount Kailash. As he ascended towards Kailash, he sang these soulful verses, reflecting on Shiva's immense grace. He declares that Shiva "created him first" only to eventually "melt his heart" and claim him as His own. Known as the Thirunodithanmalai Pathigam, these verses are a moving farewell, where Sundarar requests the celestial beings and the natural world to bear witness to his return to the Divine. Sundarar, meaning "The Beautiful One," was an 8th-century saint whose life was defined by a unique, intimate friendship with the Divine. Known as Thambiran Thozhan (Friend of the Lord), he interacted with Shiva with a rare combination of deep love and bold familiarity. His hymns, which form the Seventh Thirumurai, are celebrated for their rhythmic beauty and raw emotion. He is most revered for documenting the lives of the 63 Nayanars, ensuring that the legacy of these great devotees would live on forever. Thevarams are devotional hymns sung in praise of Shiva by the 3 Nayanmars: Sambandar, Thirunavukkarasar and Sundarar. Rendered in an ancient musical style that precedes most Indian classical music systems, these songs give us an insight into the wave of bhakti that swept across southern India during the 7th Century. In this album, the students of Sadhguru Gurukulam Samskriti have rendered a few Thevarams as an offering to today’s world.
