Your grammar is perfect, but do people look surprised when you speak English? 😬 Your words may sound rude, even when you don't mean it! In this 5-minute lesson, language coach Marcus Hill shows you 5 common phrases to avoid and the polite English you can say instead.
In this lesson you will learn:
❌ "What's wrong with you?" ➜ ✅ "Is everything okay?"
❌ "I don't care." ➜ ✅ "I don't mind." / "Either is fine with me."
❌ "Give me water." ➜ ✅ "Could I have some water, please?"
❌ "You are wrong." ➜ ✅ "I see it a little differently."
❌ "No." ➜ ✅ "I'm afraid I can't." / "Thanks, but I'll pass."
📌 BONUS PHRASES
"Could I ask why?" instead of "Why?"
"Sorry, could you say that again?" instead of "What?"
"I'll pass" is an idiom that means "no, thank you" in a friendly way.
💡 NATIVE SPEAKER TIP
These phrases are not grammar mistakes. The problem is tone. Softeners like "could", "would", "I'd like" and "please" make your English sound polite and natural.
