Earth Promised to Repair Our Damaged Ships—Nobody Expected What Came Out of Their Docks
When the voice on the emergency channel promised to repair every broken ship in a fleeing alien armada for free, the captain laughed. Seventy-three days of running from the Gharrakh Hegemony had taught him that nobody helps the doomed.
But the humans of Phet Yard, an ugly, noisy, welded-together orbital dockyard, meant every word. They learned to heal living ships. They shared their food. They worked all night, singing, arguing, and drinking terrible coffee. And behind their cheerful chaos, something enormous was waiting in a sealed dock that nobody was allowed to open.
Then the Hegemony arrived with a hundred and forty warships and a deadline. The Earth government refused to help. The Council looked away. The dockmistress picked up a clipboard and told her workers they were free to leave.
Nobody did.
This is a story about hospitality turned into a weapon, about ordinary tradespeople facing down an empire, and about what happens when a species that never stops fixing things decides it has finally been pushed too far. Expect tugboats, cranes, welding torches, a very big ship-breaker, and a final twist that will make you cheer.
