CompTIA Project+ (PK0-005) – Basic Characteristics of a Project and Methodologies A project is a temporary undertaking created to achieve a specific purpose, produce a unique deliverable, or accomplish a defined business objective within an established timeframe. Projects have a defined beginning and end, specific goals, assigned resources, and constraints such as scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk. IT projects can use different methodologies and frameworks depending on organizational requirements and the nature of the work. Common approaches include Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Extreme Programming (XP), PRINCE2, DevOps, DevSecOps, and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). Waterfall follows a structured sequential approach, while Agile supports iterative development and changing requirements. Scrum organizes work into short iterations called sprints, while Kanban focuses on continuous workflow. Selecting an appropriate methodology depends on project requirements, team structure, organizational environment, and stakeholder needs.
