Welcome to Episode 17 of our All-India Family Road Expedition from Kerala to Ladakh! This is Part 2 of Day 15, covering our scenic drive back from the India-Pakistan border towards our base in Hunder. After an unforgettable morning standing at the edge of the country in Thang Village and soaking in the unique Balti culture of Turtuk, we hit the tarmac for the return journey. The route from Thang to Hunder along the turquoise Shyok River is pure visual poetry—carved through colossal, rugged canyons with stark, dramatic cliffs towering on either side. Driving across these remote valleys with a family requires planning ahead, so before settling in for the night, we make a crucial stop in Diskit to fill diesel in our car. With the tank full and peace of mind secured, we pick up some snacks, chocolates, and ice cream for the kids to celebrate another successful day on the road. By 6:00 PM, we safely roll back into our second home in Nubra—the wonderful Achan Homestay. Returning here felt like visiting family; the hosts welcomed us back with warm smiles, and our children immediately jumped into playing with the homestay owner's two sweet daughters. It’s these grounded, peaceful homestay moments that turn a road trip into memories that last a lifetime.
