BAFTA winning celebration of midwifery and childbirth, this film shows birth from start to end, sharing the real sounds of labour and birth. Please share it to celebrate health professionals, start discussions or to teach children about birth. This is a free resource to share on your website when shared from our YouTube channel. Mother of Many was made through research into physiology, hearing many people’s birth stories, constructed with real sounds of birth, the mother's moans and the babies foetal/fetal heartbeat. The film cuts between the life of the midwife and the journey of the baby, through all stages of labour. Animated using traditional drawn and painted under camera and After-effects, in inky rich colours – visceral reds and linear blues, separated for each world (the hospital and the womb) and merging at the climax. Mother of Many was inspired by Pam Lazenby, director Emma's mum. Pam retrained from nursing after Emma went to school, and worked as a midwife at Airedale Hospital (Yorkshire, UK) for 30 years. She delivered many thousands of babies. Emma had decided to leave her career in animation to retrain and follow in her mums footsteps, but when the film won a BAFTA in 2010, she decided to start ForMed Films CIC to make medical films to inform and ease worry about medical issues.
