The Grammy Award-winning audio editing software Melodyne is used for natural vocals all over the world: a studio standard, in fact. Melodyne distinguishes no fewer than three pitch parameters: pitch center, pitch modulation and pitch drift. One consequence of this is that you can correct the pitch of a note that is sharp or flat without ironing out the vibrato within it. The natural sound and vitality of the performance therefore remain intact despite the correction. The refined algorithms of the new version 5 detect unpitched (i.e. noise-like) components of the vocal sound as well as breaths and process them separately from the pitched components.
